Terminology
The term "First Nations" is often used synonymously with "Aboriginal peoples" or "Indigenous peoples." However, there are some important distinctions between these terms. "Aboriginal peoples" is a legal term that refers to all First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples in Canada. "Indigenous peoples" is a broader term that can include all peuples who identify themselves as having a connection to a particular land or territory.
History
First Nations people have lived in Canada for thousands of years. They have a rich and diverse culture that is reflected in their languages, art, music, and traditions. European contact in the 15th century had a profound impact on First Nations peoples, and they continue to face challenges such as poverty, discrimination, and the loss of their traditional lands and way of life.
