School shooting in Vyazniki, Vladimir Oblast leaves several injured

Police have arrested a suspect and are searching for a second in connection with a mass shooting at a school in Vyazniki, Russia.

According to early reports, the incident began when a student armed with a gun entered the school and opened fire on fellow students.

Vyazniki is a town in Russia on the Klyazma River, 260 kilometers (160 miles) northeast of Moscow. The shooting took place at school number 18 in the town of Vyazniki, located in central Russia. The suspect, a 15-year-old student, was taken into custody at the scene, and a search is underway for a second possible suspect.

According to Vladimir region governor Alexander Avdeev, the shooter used a legally registered firearm owned by his father, a hunting enthusiast. The police are still investigating the motive behind the rampage, but they do not believe it was an act of terrorism. "We are considering various motives, but we are not considering terrorism," a source in the law enforcement told Interfax news agency.

The injured victims were taken to a local hospital for medical attention. According to regional health minister Artur Fidler, one person is in critical condition, while three are in serious but stable condition. "Doctors are fighting for each of them," said Fidler. Vyazniki city hospital chief doctor Inna Voloshina reported that 12 people were admitted to the hospital, six of whom required surgery.

The local prosecutor's office has launched a criminal investigation into the shooting. The Investigative Committee of Russia has also opened a criminal case into the incident on charges of attempted murder of two or more people. The case was put under special control of the Prosecutor General's Office and control of the Investigative Committee.
