Germany Hit Hungary For Five In Euro Opening Game

Germany Hit Hungary For Five in EURO Opening Game

Euro 2024 kicks off with a bang as hosts Germany steamroll Hungary in Munich

Five star showing from Hansi Flick's men sets down marker for the tournament

Munich, Germany - Hosts Germany ran away as comfortable 5-1 winners against Hungary in the opening game of Euro 2024, setting down a marker for the rest of the tournament.

The Germans were in irresistible form from the off, with Serge Gnabry firing them into an early lead after just 10 minutes. Joshua Kimmich doubled their advantage just before the half-hour mark, and Leon Goretzka made it 3-0 shortly after the break.

Hungary pulled one back through Dominik Szoboszlai, but any hopes of a comeback were quickly extinguished as Gnabry added his second and Timo Werner completed the rout.

The victory was the biggest in an opening game of a Euros, and it sends out a clear message that Germany are one of the teams to beat in this tournament.

Hansi Flick's side will now face Portugal in their next game on Saturday, while Hungary will take on France.
